About The Event

Course Objectives:

In this hands-on workshop, participants can expect to gain a deeper understanding of how to perform a thorough physical examination of the lumbopelvic girdle. The course will emphasize a variety of physical examination skills including observation, movement assessment, orthopedic tests, palpation, and functional screens. Trigger/Motor/Ashi/Segmental acupuncture strategies, & manual therapy techniques to address physical examination findings will be introduced, demonstrated, and practiced under supervision.

Instructors Biography:

Josh Margolis, L.Ac., DOMTP

Joshua Margolis, L.Ac., DOMTP has been practicing manual medicine and bodywork since 1995, and acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine since 2001. From 2005 to 2009, he was on faculty at The Academy of Chinese Culture and Health Sciences in Oakland and The Acupuncture and Integrative Medicine College in Berkeley teaching anatomy, orthopedic acupuncture, advanced channel theory, and pain management. Currently, Joshua is on staff at The Osteopathic College of Ontario and teaches in the doctoral programs at several Bay Area acupuncture colleges. Additionally he teaches segmental acupuncture and manual therapy courses for acupuncturists throughout the US.Joshua regularly pursues high level trainings in cranial and visceral manipulation and has a profound understanding of the interplay between the nervous system, internal organs and the musculoskeletal system.

In Joshua's years of practice in the Bay Area, he has gained a diverse and loyal following, comprised of professional musicians, dancers, yogis, restauranteurs, and athletes, as well as children, the elderly, and those with severe chronic illness. He has been practicing at Farmacopia, in Santa Rosa, CA since 2011.

Jaime Chaves, L.Ac.

Jaime Chaves, L.Ac. has been a licensed acupuncturist in California since 2002. He received his Master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine from Five Branches University and participated in an internship in Beijing, China. Jaime specializes in the treatment of work related injuries. He is currently the head acupuncturist in a prominent Bay Area worker’s compensation clinic and works alongside medical doctors, physical therapists, and orthopedic surgeons. Jaime is passionate about the art of physical examination and integrates a multidisciplinary approach in the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal pathologies.

Jaime has been an instructor in several Bay Area acupuncture schools at both the Master’s and Doctoral level. It was during this time that he discovered his passion for teaching. Jaime has had the honor of introducing acupuncture to medical residents who periodically shadow him for clinical rounds. He has been a guest lecturer for Stanford’s physician assistant program and has been actively teaching physical exam skills to acupuncturists in hospital settings. Jaime continues to find joy in spreading the word about the effectiveness of acupuncture.
